As I step into the Presidency, many thanks to Past-President Sue Graham for her extraordinary leadership, vision and commitment to make our League of Women Voters Los Altos Mountain View a respected voice on topical issues in our community. By way of introduction, I am “almost” a California native, having graduated from Gunn High School and Stanford University. I had a rewarding career in public administration with Santa Clara County and the City of Mountain View, until I retired in 2009. We are 30-year residents of Los Altos.
Over the summer, your Board met to discuss how to strengthen our chapter and develop programs of interest to our members and the broader community. Because this is not an election year, we will be focusing on important “internal” needs: updating our website and business programs, increasing use of online registration, better publicizing our activities and improving the “depth” of leadership in our chapter.
Looking ahead, your Board plans to offer diverse and interesting topics for the monthly, “Lunch with the League.” Our primary issue of focus for the next six months will be the implementation of the Affordable Care Act, where we will be joining with other Leagues to provide education and information to the community.
Please be sure to renew your membership. You can now renew online by visiting our website. And please contact me with your thoughts about our League and ideas for programs of interest to Los Altos, Mountain View and Los Altos Hills.
I look forward to working with all of you in the year ahead.
