A Public Dialogue on the Future of Medicare

A public meeting was held on October 17, 1998 with seven distinguished speakers. This was one of the 10 major national conferences about Medicare in the country with the purpose of gathering public input for the National Bipartisan Commission on the Future of Medicare.

The Future of Medicare: October 17, 1998

Our Los Altos/Mountain View League was selected by the LWVUS as one of only ten sites in the nation to host a public meeting on the subject of the challenges facing Medicare. The meeting was held on October 17, 1998. Shirley Rich, our Health Care consultant, and Jean Meddaugh, our Social Policy Director, headed the committee consisting of volunteers from seven other local Leagues in Santa Clara and San Mateo counties to organize and produce the public meeting. The project was sponsored by the League of Women Voters Education Fund which received a grant from the Kaiser Family Foundation (not associated with Kaiser Permanente or Kaiser Industries) to educate the public on the changes in health care, especially Medicare.

A transcript of this important meeting is available.
